Porsha Stewart demands alimony from NFL star Kordell Stewart

Many Minnesota residents are familiar with “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Porsha Stewart and her NFL star husband Kordell Steward. The two are ending their marriage after Porsha was “blindsided” by the quarterback’s actions of filing for divorce. In response to Kordells divorce papers, Porsha demands that he pay her alimony.

The whole drama began when the NFL star filed for divorce behind his wife’s back. Porsha claimed that she did not find out till later. She is now requesting spousal maintenance from her soon-to-be ex husband.

The couple was married for less than two years. According to Porsha, she is demanding alimony because she had to give up her business and quit her job to take care of Kordell’s son from his previous relationship. Kordell claimed that she is an able-bodied person capable of earning her own income. He also claimed that a prenup had been signed.

In the state of Minnesota, spousal maintenance is decided based on a variety of factors. These include the duration of the marriage, the couple’s work experience and level of education, each person’s age and demonstrated need to name a few. Alimony is used to restrict any unfair economic effects caused by the divorce. This is done by providing income to a spouse who earns a lower wage or no wage.

The amount of spousal maintenance is not always easy to predict. No two Minnesota divorce cases are the same. An experienced attorney may be able to advise people about their options when it comes to alimony.
