Humphries divorce proceedings underway in Minnesota this week

Depositions have reportedly started in one of Minnesota’s most high-profile divorce cases in recent years. The highly public divorce between Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian has captivated audiences and readers around the country who are eager to see what will happen and how the famous duo will divide the many complex assets they accumulated during their short union.

Most Minnesota couples wouldn’t be as comfortable exposing the details of their divorce to the public the way that Kardashian and Humphries are. However, their experience has a lot in common with many couples, especially when one looks at how difficult it has been for them to come to an agreement about what exactly ended the marriage and who was at fault.

In Minnesota, as in most states, a determination of fault is not necessary for a divorce. At the same time, family law cases like divorce and child custody can be highly emotional experiences, and many people use the process to look for answers as to why the marriage ended.

News came out this week that Kardashian has subpoenaed a recent ex-girlfriend of Humphries, seeking to expose information about that relationship that Humphries’ team has kept quiet. It is unclear what Kardashian’s lawyers expect to uncover and how it will relate to the divorce proceedings.

With all of the back-and-forth in the media, it will be a challenge to find an impartial jury by the time the actual trial begins. Oprah Winfrey interviewed Kardashian earlier this week and told viewers that she was sorry about the way things had gone with Humphries.
