Domestic abuse part of six crimes committed by Northfield man

On Behalf of | Dec 28, 2011 | Firm News |

It has been a busy year for a 22-year-old Northfield man who has been involved in four separate incidents of criminal activity in 2011. In January it was domestic assault; in April it was domestic abuse, terroristic threats and attempted assault of a peace officer; in June it was terroristic threats again; and now he faces six mores crimes, including four felonies – terroristic threats, domestic assault, and two counts of assaulting a police officer.

According to Northfield police, the man threatened the life of his girlfriend before assaulting police officers who arrested him. The man was placed on probation and will await a court date for sentencing. The crimes he has been charged with carry a total in excess of 21 years in prison, which may include hefty fines as well.

A criminal complaint went into details about the incident. The report alleges that the 22-year-old pushed his girlfriend to the ground multiple times after he got into an altercation with her. His girlfriend injured her knee and wrist, but thanks to a friend she was able to get away and call the police. She said the domestic abuse happened on the side of a road, following the 22-year-old consuming about a “half of bottle” of alcohol.

The man also cut off his monitoring bracelet and was carrying a knife with him, according to his girlfriend. After being hit with a taser and causing damage to a police car, the man was subdued at a hospital. When he awoke, he allegedly kicked an officer 18 times after the officer tried to arrest him.

The recklessness allegedly shown by this man highlights how complicated and serious a domestic abuse matter can get. The victim in an abusive relationship needs protection from such abusive behavior, along with other members of that person’s family, may it be children or immediate family. Seek expert legal representation when dealing with serious matters such as domestic abuse.
