Minnesota man arrested for violating protection order

On July 2, police arrested a Waseca, Minnesota, man for allegedly violating a protection order and theft. Police detailed their allegations against the man in a criminal complaint filed with the Waseca County Court on July 3. According to that document, the 34-year-old defendant showed up at the home of a woman who had an order of protection against him.

Same-sex marriage boom shows need for prenuptial agreements

It has been a year since the United States Supreme Court ruled that the Defense of Marriage Act was unconstitutional. Since that time, many other states have joined Minnesota in recognizing same-sex marriages. Today, marriage between same-sex couples is now legal in 19 states and Washington D.C. The unprecedented expansion of rights have left many gay people wondering how this relates to their finances.

Minnesota professor defends children's rights

A professor from the University of Minnesota recently stated that family law often does not do much to protect the relationships between siblings. In fact, the professor went so far as to say that the law actually permits families to tear siblings apart after a divorce or the death of a parent, arguing that more should be done to allow these siblings to be connected, regardless of the child custody situation.

Robin Williams, post-divorce, back in rehab in Minnesota

Robin Williams was divorced in 2009, after he and his wife filed for divorce the year before, and he has said that he believes it was because of his drinking problems. He did note that he could tell his wife that he was sorry, but he said that that just was not always enough to get rid of the issues. The official reason for the divorce has been listed as irreconcilable differences, but Williams maintains it was his issues, which he called disgusting.
